Getting reviews -- or related interviews -- for a small press poetry book is no easy thing. Frankly, I got lucky when my first collection Infinity Standing Up got a positive write-up in The Washington Post back in 2019. And although I haven't had any coverage quite that high-profile since then for my subsequent literary efforts (fiction and poetry alike) , I have managed to get a nice bit of press for my new book, Fassbinder: His Movies, My Poems, for which I'm honestly thankful. These pieces have been consistently thoughtful and generous in their assessments, especially when you consider that my muse is hardly a household name. To wit...
Vikram Bondai for Hamilton Arts & Letters: "Pisarra makes this book encompassing and relevant via robust craft, smarts, and compelling poetic storytelling."
Jarrod Campbell for Modern Literature: "Poetry proves a perfect medium to grapple with the universal themes always haunting Fassbinder..."
Jordan E. Franklin for Harpur Palate: "...the contrasts between you and Fassbinder’s perspectives on love is fascinating." (interview)
Jerry L. Wheeler for Out in Print: "...so interesting and creative..."
